Do you know that you can grow your hair with natural, cheap and familiar ingredients? Here are some formula for natural haircare that you can give it a try!
Rice water
Rice water is a benign ingredient, containing manifold vitamins and minerals from the peeled rice skin. Some prominent benefits of rice water for hair:
- Cleans dirt and dandruff from the scalp. From there, the scalp is more open, the hair is strong and grows quickly.
- Supplementing amino acids deep into the hair roots and shaft helps hair become smoother and shinier.
- Reduces friction on the scalp surface and increases hair elasticity.
- After fermentation, rice water also helps fight agents that damage hair and scalp.
- Minimizes split ends, breakage and stimulates hair growth.
In this article, I will introduce 2 effective methods that I frequently use to incubate hair with rice water.
Nourish hair with pure rice water
Perhaps this is the easiest and most time-saving method for nourishing hair with rice water. The steps are as follows:
- Step 1: pour clean water into the sufficient amount of rice to wash it gently, It is noticeable that you should not wash rice roughly because it may lose rice’s nutrients. In order to as ensure the nutrients in it are still preserved as well as maximize the effectiveness, you should use rice water after carefully washing in the second or third time.
- Step 2: use clean rice water to wash your hair after washing with shampoo. During washing with rice water, remember to gently massage hair and scalp around 10 minutes so that your hair can absorb nutrients in rice water.
- Step 3: wash your hair as usual

Nourish hair with fermented rice water
In my opinion, this is the most effective and also my favorite natural haircare method for my underconsumption life. The steps are as follows:
- Step 1: restore rice water after washing it twice in the glass or plastic bottle. You can keep it in the room temperature approximately 6 – 12 hours. However, you should not ferment rice water more than 24 hours.
- Step 2: after fermenting, you should mix a sufficient amount of warm water with fermented rice water.
- Step 3: use that mixture directly onto your hair and incubate it around 20 – 30 minutes. During incubating, spend around 10 minutes to gently massage hair and scalp. After that, you can wash your hair as usual.
Some notes when incubating hair with rice water
In order to maximize the effectiveness, it is highly recommended for you to wash/incubate your hair with rice water about 2 – 3 times a week to increase smoothness and softness.
Do not incubate your hair with rice water for too long (over 30 minutes) since the amount of protein in rice water will have the opposite effect of drying your hair.
The effectiveness will be observed clearly after 2 – 3 weeks. So you need to be patient with this method. Underconsumption core is a patient journey!
Ginger water
As for Asian, ginger has been a familiar ingredient for people to nourish hair because of amazing benefits of ginger:
- Stimulates hair growth effectively
- Effectively overcomes hair loss
- Anti-fungal and enhances scalp health
There is an extremely simple but effective ginger water that I would love to introduce to you. The steps are as follows:
- Step 1: crush the ginger thoroughly and mix it with enough boiling water. After that, filtering the water and discarding the residue.
- Step 2: cool the ginger water until it is warm.
- Step 3: use it directly on the scalp. Note: you should not use it on your hair since ginger water may dries your hair.
- Step 4: gently massage the scalp for 10 minutes and incubate hair with ginger water about 30 minutes. Then wash hair as usual.
Facial care
During the formation of underconsumption life, I have tried lots of beauty methods which are appropriate with “underconsumption core”. Fortunately, I figured out some safe and incredible beauty tips for facial care that I find satisfying. Here are some tips:
Rice mask
Rice is an amazing ingredient not only for food but also for beauty. Here are some prominent benefits of rice for skincare:
- Helps prevent aging; reduces irritation and restores sunburned skin
- Brightens and evens skin tone; tighten pores
Here are the preparation steps for rice mask:
- Step 1: wash rice carefully with clean water for 2 – 3 times
- Step 2: boil washed rice until it is fluffy and soft
- Step 3: use the blender to puree the finished product with a little warm water
- Step 4: add a little honey into the mixture. It is highly recommended for you to use no-sugar honey.
- Step 5: use it directly onto your face for 15 – 20 minutes
Please note that you should not use rice mask if you have acne!
Cucumber and turmeric mask
A simple, familiar but effective mask that everyone can do. The main benefits of this mask include: brighten skin and treat dark spot.
Here are the preparation steps:
- Step 1: mix cucumber juice with turmeric starch in a 2:1 ratio to obtain a thick mixture.
- Step 2: apply finished product directly onto your face for 15 – 20 minutes. After that, wash your face with warm water carefully.
In order to get the best results, you should you it 2-3 times a week. You can use it as a natural remedy for acne scars.
Vaseline
Vaseline is an extremely ubiquitous products. It is not only affordable but also versatile. In this article, I will introduce 2 ways to make full use of this amazing product.
Nourish long and healthy eyelashes
This is an epitomic usage of Vaseline that not many people do know. You can grow long and healthy eyelashes by Vaseline!
Simply, you merely put Vaseline directly on your eyelashes (from the root to the eyelashes) with the sufficient amount of product not to make your eyelashes feel heavy. If you want to maximize the effectiveness, you can mix Vaseline with a little amount of vitamin E.
Remember that this method takes a long time to see results clearly and this method does not make your eyes dark like regular eyelash care products. However, in my opinion, it is worth spending time nourishing eyelashes with Vaseline because it takes a long time to use Vaseline up.
You can also use Vaseline specializing for lip treat to nourish eyelashes.
Lip mask
Perhaps this is the most common usage of Vaseline. Yes, you can use this product as a lip mask (I would not recommend to use it as a lip balm due to its heavy texture).
Remember that Vaseline does not make your lip pink or brighter. It merely moisturizes your lips thoroughly so that you can exfoliate your lips by warm towel next morning. By exfoliating lips frequently, the lip shade may improve.
Clothes
To be honest, this is the thing which I spent a copious of money on. Fortunately, I stopped this habit thanks to my followings underconsumption rules:
Outfit
I prioritize clothes which can be used in manifold situations including daily life, workplace and outdoor activities. Especially, they should not be on-trend because people tend not to use them when the trend is over. Moreover, your items should be versatile so that you can mix them in many ways. This way will minimize the budget spent on clothes. Besides, it is highly recommended to purchase high-quality items since they will have a long lifespan and the material is also beautiful.
Remember that fashion is a circulation, which means the “outdated outfit” will be “on-trend outfit” in the future. Therefore, it is pointless to purchase trendy items. You should wear comfortable and sustainable clothes instead.
In my opinion, Capsule Wardrobe is appropriate with the underconsumption lifestyle!
Jewelry
Jewelry should follow these principles: simple – versatile – convenient. In this way, you can save a copious of money for these adorable items. Besides, it is important to choose the ones made by durable materials such as gold or silver. This way will lengthen the lifespan of them.
As for earrings, I would love to recommend drop earrings which are appropriate with most of circumstances. I am wearing my 4-year-old golden earrings and it is still in a good condition.
Accessories
It is undeniable that accessories will upgrade your outfits effectively. Nonetheless, have you ever bought accessories which are used once in your life and then you forgot them in the closet? That is the point that I want to make. Instead of purchasing a large amount of them, is it more reasonable to buy the ones which can be used in various circumstances?
In my opinion, a good handbag will be a worthy investment. You should choose the one which is appropriate with your job, your style and your financial condition. For me, I have 2 accessories: a backpack and a cross-body bag. It is optimal for me to have a backpack because I need to bring my laptop along frequently; and I wear my backpack most of time that I go outside. The cross-body bag is my auntie’s gift and sometimes I use it when hanging out with friends.
Shoes
Basically, you just need 4 pairs of shoes which are satisfied with any situations:
- 1 for work (eg: high heel, leather shoes,..)
- 1 for sport (eg: sneaker, sandal,..)
- 1 for home (eg: slipper, sandal,..)
- 1 for winter (this is optional if you are not living in place having snow during winter)
During the winter time, you can use winter boots for both work and sport. Therefore, it is reasonable to use a pair of shoes for multi situations such as work – sport, sport – home,..
